RH Farmhouse Table Fantasy

When we decided to move from a townhouse into our new big house, I could not wait to furnish and decorate my very first formal dining room. I had visions of the Restoration Hardware Salvaged Wood Trestle Table decked out for the holidays with the most beautiful and perfectly planned table scape, surrounded by our family and friends. Then I looked at the price tag. And then I remembered that we had almost 3600 square feet that we were completely gutting, remodeling, and furnishing. And oh yeah, that naughty little word BUDGET.

Ruling out the DIY Farmhouse Table

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and luckily I have a knack for finding high quality, budget friendly alternatives. The big box furniture stores were at best, “ehhh” and didn’t have the solid, heavy, substantial look and feel of a farmhouse table that I wanted. Pinterest has DIY farmhouse tables all over, so I showed my husband. “Sure that would be easy” he said. Perfect! Except I decided I needed an extension table because our family is huge, and making an expandable table is not quite as DIY friendly. Where would that fit on our priority list? We were still focused on just getting our new house livable so that we could move in. Seeing as how a year later, I’m still trying to find time to paint my son’s wall, I think it’s good we did not go this route!

My New Furniture Secret Weapon

Then I struck gold. While surfing Home Depot’s website for one of the many fixtures we needed, I stumbled across the table I had been daydreaming about! At first I was confused. Home Depot has furniture that is amazingly beautiful and on trend? That’s when I met the best kept furniture secret – The Home Decorators Collection.

The Home Decorators Collection Aldridge Extendable Dining Table (Click here to see) was exactly what I was looking for. I read the reviews on Home Depot’s website and I knew I had to give it a try. Since it was close to Black Friday, the table was on sale and I ended up paying less than $800 for the table. That is less than we would have paid for materials if we would have built our own table!

Assembly

We chose in store pickup to save the shipping costs since my husband has a pickup truck. The table is extremely heavy and it took a couple of extra big guys to unload it at our house. The assembly took my husband maybe a half hour, and with the help of a friend again, we flipped the table over and I was in love.

Quality and Beauty

The table is solid mango wood and it definitely has that substantial feel I was going for. The table top is thick and the legs are the most beautiful solid pedestals. I chose the Antique Grey finish which gives off a weathered, rustic feel that blends with both wood tones and greys. The table is so versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on chairs, chandelier, and decor. The combination of the finish with the pedestals gave me the French country or farmhouse glam look that I wanted. It is also available in a Walnut finish or a Washed Black finish.

The table top has almost a scraped texture to it, it is not like a smooth sheet of wood. The texture adds to the rustic characteristics and it also makes me feel safer (as a mom of two boys) that it won’t get scratched easily. It also feels like there is a sealer or layer over the finish that might help protect the wood. There is nothing fragile feeling about this table!

Size and Extension

We comfortably have 3 chairs on either side of the 89.5″ table without the extension. I may eventually get contrasting wingback chairs for the ends, but for now I don’t want to cover up the awesome pedestal legs.

The leaf is really cool and expands the table to 107″. It flips down and inside the table on a hinge, where it is stored… no need to hide the leaf under your bed! Also when adding or removing the leaf, the tabletop slides independently from the legs, so no heavy lifting or recruiting help. Anyone can expand the table on their own. We have comfortably seated 12 with the extension in.

My Aldridge farmhouse dining table is my favorite piece of furniture in our house. I smile every time I walk by it, and the fact that it fit into our budget (with room to spare) is just the icing on the cake. Discovering Home Depot’s Home Decorators Collection has helped me furnish our house with quality, beautiful pieces at a great price. I can’t wait to show you the other furniture pieces I have bought from them!
